Right-click to mute, speed up, split or delete

Right-click any block on the timeline to mute it, change its speed from 1.05× to 1.5×, delete it, or split at the playhead.

The right-click menu

Right-click a video block on the timeline. You get:

  • Copy, Cut and Paste: move or duplicate a block (⌘C, ⌘X, ⌘V)
  • Mute / Unmute: silences that block without cutting it
  • Adjust Speed: plays the block faster
  • Delete: removes the block
The timeline right-click menu with Mute, Adjust Speed and Delete

Select several blocks first. The menu then applies to all of them, and a mixed selection is muted first, so one more click unmutes them all.

Speed up a section

Open Adjust Speed and choose a speed. The options are:

  • 1× (normal)
  • 1.05×
  • 1.15×
  • 1.25×
  • 1.5×

Faster speed makes the block shorter on the timeline. If you want every block at the same speed, choose Apply to All after setting one.

Split

Move the playhead and press ⌘B, or choose Edit → Split at Playhead. Each half becomes its own block, so you can mute, speed up or delete just that part.

Questions

How do I mute just one part of my video?

Split the video around that part with ⌘B, right-click the block, and choose Mute.

How do I speed up a boring section?

Split it into its own block, right-click, choose Adjust Speed, and pick a speed up to 1.5×.
