Combine a screen recording and a camera recording
Already recorded your screen and your camera as two separate files? Drop both into CueClip and it syncs them by sound and puts the camera over the screen.
Bring in both files
If you recorded your screen with one app and yourself with a webcam, phone or camera, CueClip can join the two into a single project, the same as if you had recorded them in CueClip.
- In Finder, select both videos: the screen recording and the camera recording. Hold ⌘ and click to select more than one.
- Drag the two files onto the CueClip window together. You can also choose File → Upload File… (⌘O) and select both files in the picker.
- CueClip checks which file is the screen and which is the camera, then opens the Combine into one video? window.
Drop exactly two files. With any other number, CueClip imports the first video on its own.
Check the Combine window
The window shows a preview of the combined video and the two files with their roles. Before you click Combine:
- Screen and Camera: if CueClip guessed the roles the wrong way round, click the swap button between them.
- Sync: a line under the files tells you how they were lined up, for example "Synced by sound — the camera started 2.4s after the screen." You don't need to line them up yourself.
- Sound from: if both videos have sound, choose Camera mic or Screen recording. Pick whichever mic sounded better.
- 2 people on camera: if the camera shows two people, choose Both, side by side, Left person or Right person.
- Click Combine. CueClip lines the videos up, which can take a moment for long or 4K camera footage.
- The project opens in the editor with the camera over the screen, and CueClip transcribes it as usual.
From there everything works as it does for a CueClip recording: change the camera's layout, shape and position in the video settings, and use auto-edit, captions and zoom.
If something looks off
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Their sound doesn't match | The two files may be from different sessions, so CueClip can't sync them by sound and lines them up from the start. Check you picked the right pair. |
| Only one video has sound | There's nothing to sync by, so the two are lined up from the start. This is fine if both recordings started at the same moment. |
| The camera ends before the screen | The camera recording is shorter. Its last frame stays on screen until the end; you can cut or hide it in the editor. |
Don't want them combined? Click Cancel in the window and drop the files one at a time instead.
Questions
Do the two recordings need to start at the same time?
No. If both have sound, CueClip matches the audio and lines them up automatically, even if one started earlier.
Are my original files changed?
No. CueClip makes its own copies for the project and leaves the originals where they are.
